Vintage Peter Chapman Wooden Dachshund Dog 3-D Puzzle 1997

Description

This is a vintage Peter  Chapman wooden dachshund puzzle.  Mr. Chapman's studio is on Bent Mountain VA; he has been working there since the early 1980s sculpting and carving single pieces of wood into three-dimentional interlocking animal puzzles. Each one is unique and signed, with a surprise inside! His work can be seen at www.woodenstonegallery.com.
This puzzle came out of an old farmhouse at the base of Bent Mountain.  The lady we bought it from knew nothing about it; it was there when she moved in and had been sitting on the mantle for years.
We identified it through a web search, matching it to the pictures that I  have included where it's been for sale. I was told by a gallery owner who sells his work, " Take it apart. If you find the bone, it's his."
I did, and you can clearly see the little white bone. The last picture is a close-up of the belly. Mr. Chapman signs all of his work,  but I was told that can fade with time. If you look closely,  you will see PC, and 97 underneath it. It took me a while to find the date and initials; it was the last bit that I  needed to authenticate this piece as Mr.  Chapman's work.
